About The Artwork
This piece is a self-portrait. I paint self-portraits at moments of transition in my life, or sometime after them when things have begun to settle, as a way of checking in with myself. By using paint rather than words (I'm also a writer), I'm able to articulate what is going on with myself psychologically and emotionally without having to understand it completely. In this self-portrait, I aimed to capture the fluid state I am in through the use of multiple mediums; the interaction between a more limited, traditional palette and saturated, poppy colors; and playful, lively brushstrokes.
