A recent trip to Northern Ontario, Restoule Lake took me back to my earliest memories as a child. We rented a little cottage on Restoule lake and the shoreline had a little sandy beach but across the lake you could see a rocky, rugged shoreline where pine trees dipped into the shallow water. No matter where I happen to find myself in the world, a quiet piece of wilderness, a lake, trees, birdsong and the whisper of the wind brings my memories back to my childhood summers in Northern Ontario. This painting is framed.

Deborah Murphy has been a life long artist, creating works of art since she was a child. She grew up in Toronto and spent many vacations in northern Ontario. The outdoors have always inspired her. She is an amateur photographer who is able to bring much of the natural beauty of the outdoors to her canvas. It is therapeutic to paint. Creating in front of a canvas affords the time to breathe, to reflect and meditate. The simple act of applying paint to canvas becomes a calming almost spiritual experience. Deborah has been able to pursue art full time since moving with her family to the Netherlands 7 years ago. She has had the opportunity to work with internationally acclaimed abstract artist, Maryolga Nieto and also works in the studio of Hans Bonte, who specializes in portraiture. She paints plein air in water colour and acrylic and completes many studies in pencil sketch when she is travelling. Deborah enjoys the freedom of abstract art. She tends to move away from the natural colour palette of her landscape pieces and prefers to use bold reds, purples and fuchsias. She completes many pieces on a commissioned basis and consults with her clients on colour schemes, size and mood that the individual piece is meant to convey.
