This large oil painting explores the unique beauty of the egg both externally and internally. The piece was inspired by my love for the simplicity of the egg and equally complex and powerful nature of life.

During it's creation I limited the subject to brown and white eggs. First with an emphasis on the whole egg and then the broken pieces. As the work continued it seemed relevant to include the inner more gooey elements, which to my eye had their own level of fascinating beauty.

This piece goes beyond a visual representation of the egg. It also speaks to me about rebirth (my own included) and the fragile nature of life.

This artwork is one of several "composite" paintings I've done. I work on these as I am inspired as they take a long time. Composite paintings consist of numerous small canvases each individually painted. They are then mounted together to form something new, but with a unifying emphasis on one subject or story.

This painting comes framed in a custom cut wood float frame. It measures approximately 32" x 24" and is about 1 1/4" deep. Signed and ready to hang.

ARTISTS STATEMENT: I observe, and participate in, the change of hues. I stand alone in a perspective—influenced by the roads and detours that I’ve chosen. The subjects I interpret on canvas dance with tradition, but underneath exists an individual search for freedom. As a creator, I’ve always been interested in working with color. I see my life as having a palette of its own and I seek to have the chroma of my experiences come through in my paintings. Over time, I’ve realized the only way to achieve this goal is to risk exposure—to unveil my simplified forms to the viewer. Whether the forms operate within the context of landscape or still life, the resulting narrative is always a story of merit, regardless of public perception or understanding. BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION: I was born in Vancouver, BC in 1958 and then moved to California which is where my parents originally met. I lived there until I was 6 when my family moved across the US to New Jersey for my father's work. I grew up in a creative family and pursued art in college only to leave it upon graduation, dabbling with it over the years that followed. In 2010 I returned to painting on a more committed basis. This was spawned by some significant life changes and painting became my respite. I still reside in New Jersey and as an artist I appreciate the proximity to both Philadelphia and New York City. I've been showing my work since 2011 and continue to do so.
