About The Artwork

In "The Treasure," the artist captures an intimate and reflective moment at dusk. The scene takes place inside a balcony, where a naked man, seen from behind, is leaning against the wall. The man's posture, with his head resting on his hand, which is also against the wall, suggests a mix of fatigue and contemplation. The man's nudity adds a layer of vulnerability and authenticity to the scene, highlighting the deep connection between the individual and the environment. His posture suggests a heavy emotional burden, as if he is absorbing the weight of the ending day. Next to him, a greyhound, known for its elegance and agility, contrasts with the man's immobility. The greyhound, with a sad and fixed gaze towards the outside of the balcony, seems to share the melancholy of his human companion. The sadness in the dog's eyes reinforces the feeling of introspection and solitude that permeates the piece. The sunset, with its warm and golden tones, bathes the scene in a soft and enveloping light. This illumination not only enhances the contours of the human body and the greyhound but also infuses the work with an atmosphere of peace and serenity, despite the evident undertones of sadness. The title "The Treasure" invites deeper reflection. It could suggest that the true treasure is the silent and emotional connection between the man and his faithful companion, or perhaps the treasure lies in the ability to find moments of calm and reflection in the simplicity of everyday life. The piece reminds us of the importance of introspection and the intimate relationship with our own thoughts and emotions, as well as with those who accompany us on our journey.

He was born on November 6, 1995, in Seville. From a young age, his interest in painting led him to take classes at his first master's studio at the age of 7, where he expressed his creativity until he was 11. After that period, the artist showed a lot of interest in everyday life and became interested in representing it. Tonendi began to emulate the art of the old impressionists, giving his works a personal touch. Four years later, he held his first solo exhibition in Seville, which was very well received by the public, but his mind was searching for something more. He began to study academically, receiving lessons from established artists like Shane Wolf and studying painting in a more psychological manner. Currently, the painter has works in private collections of contemporary artists as well as collections of collectors in Spain, Italy, and France. Tonendi is a Sevillian painter who has earned the nickname "the painter of stories" thanks to his ability to create works that seem to tell a complex narrative in a single image. His paintings are like visual novels that capture the viewer's attention and invite them to reflect on what they are seeing. In Tonendi's works, it is common to find nude human figures with wings, representing the fragility of the human being and their vulnerability to power and oppression. These figures appear to be subject to the whims of lords dressed in luxurious and flashy clothes, who in turn seem to be in control of everything happening in the image. The backgrounds of Tonendi's paintings are often filled with barely visible contraptions that have a symbolic origin. These elements introduce an additional layer of meaning to the works, inviting the viewer to engage with the painting's intention and discover new meanings with each glance. In addition to humans and lords dressed in luxurious clothing, animals also appear in Tonendi's works, seemingly in communion with nature and oblivious to human intrigues. These animals contribute a contrasting and harmonious element to the works, helping to create a sense of balance amidst the complexity of the image.
