About The Artwork

FEARLESS DREAM My first painting of the "A Dangerous Monkey" series to be completely loose in its style. This is purposefully done to reflect what I think a dream most likely would be like - if I could actually "capture" it of course. Below is a text in which I better discuss the idea behind this painting: - Dream without fear Fear of something, the unknown, a situation or someone. I don't necessarily see fear as an evil. We often need our survival instinct to work just to survive. But in difficult times like now, when fear surrounds us and takes over a significant part of our lives on a daily basis? First of all, it is not a reflection to justify going around doing crazy things. There is a difference between being brave / fearless and acting on purpose like a complete idiot, even more so now. To live in fear is not to live, it is to survive. It is an unfair and stressful fight. Stress has its momentary role, but not that of being this constant tension, a permanent state of exhausting alertness that corrodes the soul. What if we could dream for a moment what a life free of this tension would be like, even for a brief moment? Is joy, often defined as a moment that we don't want to end, also a state in which we are free from any fear? In this work I imagine what the Dangerous Monkey series would be like when exploring the freedom that only a dream gives us. Without any tie or obligation with geometric perfection like other works. On the other hand, the work becomes perfect as it is, with all its supposed flaws, brushwork and daydreams. It was a joy to paint this work, to explore new directions. Free me from the fear of doing differently from what was being painted until then. Gradually, I make the point that what I do is much more about an idea, a theory, that does not need to be proven or anything, just exposed and reflected by whoever wants to. If ultimately our fear is of dying, then everything else is no longer insurmountable. Go there and do it. Eric
