"Florist in Guernica" is a painting created by contemporary French artist painter Eric Bourdon with acrylic art paint on linen canvas stretched on a wooden support frame. The artwork is varnished and ready to hang. "Florist in Guernica" does not refer to the historical drama itself, but to dramatic poses such as those taken by the characters in Picasso's canvas. "The Raft of the Medusa" would also have done the trick, without any contempt for the true castaways of the historic Medusa. Here, many characters are in tears, not because they are being bombarded, but because their flowers are withered. Fortunately, a glimmer of optimism absent from Picasso's "Guernica", a florist arrives with fresh flowers ! In the background, a plane bombards the city, but with flowers... Eric Bourdon's artwork makes a sort of parody of tragic postures and goes beyond the tragic by the comic. Another canvas ( "Mish-mash in the flowers" ) did the same with a parody of an erotic scene. In both cases, it is a matter of using humor to go beyond the attitudes supposed to arouse strong emotions. Improvisation is still the only rule for Eric Bourdon, the theme of this work did not appear to the painter until late in the creation. There is also a "Van Gogh's room" atmosphere with a deliberately zany interior architecture, riddled with construction errors, which could collapse at any second... © Eric Bourdon
