The painting is a creative depiction of the fateful flight home of the co-founder of Czechoslovakia. Mr. M. R. Stefánik took off on a Caproni plane in Italy and crashed near the airport on the outskirts of Bratislava and unfortunately tragically died on May 4, 1919.
