About The Artwork

When something difficult to convey, is art a better bridge builder / tells, than everything else. In the art lies the word, the sound and the picture. I am a visual artist and uses the oil painting to express me. For me freedom is something fundamental. The freedom to express what lies in my heart I was born in Copenhagen but grew up in Norway. The last events are therefore near me. The painting is from 2008 when the Danish newspapers, after killing threats, printed the Muhammad drawings in solidarity with the Jylland Post on February 12th. (First time in Jylland Post 2005) The other countries in Europe / the world looked at this as unnecessary provocation. In Aftenposten, Norway there was a small note of what Danish newspapers had done. I saw it as a necessity to protect our press freedom. We can not always agree with what is being printed, written, drawn, sung or painted. If we do not agree we have the freedom to argue. After Paris, Europe woke up. My painting became even more relevant. Unfortunately after Copenhagen it has not become less relevant. It's understandable, but dangerous when you walk the easiest way when you get threatened. That's why everyone has to stand up for the press freedom!

ESSAY.by D.F. Colman, an art writer based in Manhattan:WHISPERS IN AN EMPTY AMPHITHEATERJette van der Lendes realistic oils have the preternatural capacity to stop time. Or at least slow time down. In his novel Slowness Milan Kundera writes: A word uttered in a small enclosed space has a different meaning from the same word resonating in an amphitheater. No longer is it a word for which he holds full responsibility and which is addressed exclusively to the partner, it is a word that other people demand to hear, people who are there, looking at them. True the amphitheater is empty, but even though it is empty, the audience, imagined and imaginary, potential and virtual, is there, is with them. With van der Lende the scale of the works may be small and yet we as viewers seem to be witnessing the birth of something special, an object caught in a cats cradle of relations (optical and mental) with other objects and the space that envelops them. This artist has the uncanny ability to create visionary work that intimates the sacred souls and sacred lives of the circumstances of objects in the world.read the whole essay of Coleman at www.jette.biz
