About The Artwork

This is an original 120x150cms painting on a deep canvas. It can be hung directly onto the wall. This painting is part of a recent series, I have called the “The Glass House” series. I was drawn to this image because of the balance of strength and fragility, combined in the image of a house made of glass. This recent work feels expansive, reflective, and full of depth. I felt the metaphor captured that perfectly. I work organically, often without a clear destination in mind, creating deliberate imperfections. Adding layer upon layer of abstract marks and scratches, colour and depth, imbuing the work with life and energy, gently vibrating in the vast shimmering pools of colour. I aim to create a harmonious space, both energetic but also meditative. I see my paintings like music or poetry, an abstract language to convey emotions, and to connect with the viewer.

"I believe that visual language has a potent power, like music or literature. And it has the power to lift, communicate and transform. Using pattern and mark to create rhythm, I use a range of materials; paint, pencil, fabric, collage, metallics, and build up my paintings in a very organic way. I overlay layers of paint, mark and collage to build up the pictorial space. This creates glimpses, hidden spaces, things half_ shown, suggested. I use delicate layers of texture, drawing and colour to create an ambiguous space. The image is then worked and re_worked until the image is “found”. Only when a balance and integration is achieved I feel that the painting is finished. I like to think of them as “visual poems”. This sensual world is one to be absorbed, felt, and enjoyed. "
