About The Artwork

Abstract acrylic and mixed media on gallery wrapped canvas, sides painted roughly, no staples, with back brace, ready for exhibit. So I believe Mark Rothko was rummaging around my subconscious on this one. Rothko is in fact present for a lot of my color field abstractions. But where as Rothko wants you to inhabit his picture plane, I'd prefer the viewer to confront my pictorial surface. I want a confrontation taking place in the space between the surface of the viewers eyeball, and the surface of my composition. This painting also is another example of what I term, surface abstraction. The title also refers back to the canvas itself, as this work has gone through an evolutionary process extending back to I don't know when. So there was something here, an unfinished composition, and then it was gone, replaced by another in a long line of incarnations, until I finally felt it was right. I might add as well that I am heavily influenced by music as I work. During the most recent phase of work on this support, the Blind Faith song, "Can't Find My Way Home," occupied my listening space. I find great inspiration from mucical alliteration. Thank you for looking. Peace and Love.

I am an American abstract painter. Every so often I veer into expressionist figuration. As an outsider I studied the fundamentals of art, the great artists, and the influential art movements throughout history, on my own. One of my goals is to always remain outside the norm. I am heavily influenced by the Abstract Expressionists from The New York School. Inspiration also comes to me from the works of Claude Monet, Joan Mitchell and Lee Krasner as well. The outsider ideal connects with me thanks to artists such as Jean Dubuffet and Jean Michel-Basquiat. Non-comformity defines what art should be. My mission is to create engaging and innovative artworks. I hope to extend an appreciation of artistic expression to a wide audience. The painting process I employ involves acrylic and mixed media. As I paint, color and material are combined on the canvas, and I love to merge drawing with painting. Many of my original paintings are found in collections across North America, Europe, and Asia. A Certificate of Authenticity ships with each painting, along with background information about the making of the piece. All the work you see is available. Thank you for looking.
