In Ancient Egypt The Pharaoh King was associated with many specific deities. He was identified directly with Horus, who represented kingship itself and was seen as a protector of the Pharaoh, and he was seen as the son of Ra who was portrayed as a falcon. "Ra, who is Horus of the Two Horizons” In this painting I have merged the two deities Horus and Ra into the same entity, as Horus- Ra or "Ra-Horakhty” as he came to be known. Every day Horus - Ra , travels across the sky on his solar barge carrying The Sun, to light the sky. When the sun set at twilight Horus-Ra then goes through The Akhet or The Star Gate into The Duat, which is The Egyptian Underworld or The Pathway of The Stars. The 12x stars on the Star Gate represent the 12 arenas of The Duat as well as the 12x hours of The Night. Horus - Ra, has to spend 1 hour in each of the 12 arenas of the Duat where he either entertains his friends with food and drinks or he has to slay his enemies, from which he emerges in the morning to carry the sun across the day to light the light the sky again and this journey process of day into night into day into night again carries on eternally. This is truly a Hero’s Journey. This is one of the 8x paintings that I exhibited at The Florence Biennale in October 2023. This is a mixed media painting, acrylic and pencil graphite on handmade paper framed with a modern black handmade frame supplied with fitted hanging gear attached.

Micheal’s artistic practice encompasses a painterly spiritual cosmology, in which the journey of inner evolution and growth is repeatedly explored. Employing the full spectrum of abstractionist modes of representation, his work surveys the depths of the collective unconscious through subtle allusions to personal experiences of transformation. Aesthetically informed by Post-Impressionism, Dadaism, Surrealism, and Abstract Expressionism, Micheal Haran works across a wide variety of 2D media with a focus on oil or acrylic on canvas. He often merges the verbal and the visual, a process through which he either distils and unites philosophical ideas with pictorial symbolism, or playfully engages in themes of dreams, inner landscapes, and the realm of the soul. Conceptually, the artist is continuously inspired by his deeply transformative experiences with shamanism, notions of wisdom associated with ancient cultures, the archaeology of the sacred, and a plethora of musical genres and the Beat Movement writers. The promise of a calmer inner life and the desire for a more humanitarian world permeate his paintings, which instils feelings of tranquillity, peace, and optimism. Micheal lived in Iquitos, in the Peruvian Amazon, for two and a half years. During this time he developed a strong connection with Amazonia and its indigenous peoples. This passion has led him to dedicate himself to both producing art and raising funds for the protection of the Amazon and other ecological biomes. Love is at the very core of Micheal’s practice. Be it love for life or love for art making, love is always made visible in his canvases: dreamlike images of flowers, in situ landscapes or ocean scenes, poetic abstract inner visions, and bold written messages. In all of its possible forms of manifestation, the theme of love underscores and drives Micheal’s oeuvre. Micheal Haran studied Fine Art at The Slade School of Fine Art, UCL from 1989 to 1991. Micheal lives and works in London and his work in held in many private collections internationally.
