About The Artwork

Acrylic on 200gsm Fabriano Accademia, the paper was stretched so it's very flat and smooth. This work is part of a series that the artist produced using text by the British poet James Hope. The works were produced to provide digital images for the album 'Ode' words by James Hope, music by David Harrow. Collaborations can be a tricky thing but in this instance the artist felt an affinity with the words and the sum of the parts created something better than the individual elements alone. James Hope can be contacted at rynoid@hotmail.com The album is available on Amazon https://www.amazon.co.uk/Ode-David-Harrow-James-Hope/dp/B07YY4KNSH/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=james+hope+david+harrow&qid=1594147235&sr=8-2 This piece was inspired by the poem Victory, here is the text used: I BELIEVE IN THINGS THAT I CANNOT SEE MY THOUGHTS CREATE REALITY I BELIEVE THAT I CAN DO IT THAT TIME GOES THROUGH MY HANDS LIKE SAND LIFE KNOWS WHO I AM VICTORY SEEMS CLOSER NOW

b 1971 UK Self taught artist working with many mediums but liking paint the best. Painting is just a language that I am more comfortable with, it has an honesty, it is what it is. My work is very unprocessed, direct, I don't see as I paint , just look at it sometime later, then start again or leave it alone until another time. I work with layers, building them up and scraping back, finding stuff I had forgotten about, the painting starts to get interesting, to develop its own past. The word paintings write themselves with no restraint, if I'm not sure I keep writing over, but ultimately the words, however buried, have been said.
