About The Artwork

The painting's titel is a blend of the season titles from the 1960s TV show "Rawhide" and the 1952 Gary Cooper/ Grace Kelly movie "High Noon". The work is autobiographic insofar as a recent road trip through the Mojave Desert and stop at Roy's Motel at Amboy brought back memories of the boyhood days. The plastic figure on the desk, representing those times, is referring to sheriff Kane's wife who left her husband and is waiting in the motel lobby to leave town as high noon comes close.

I pursue an illustrative painting style which is, to a large extent, influenced by old masters of the romantic period of the 19th century. Since my boyhood days, when I first got in contact with my parent’s art books and also from visits to arts museums, I am thrilled by the craftsmanship of painters like Eugene Delacroix, Theodore Gericault, George Stubbs, to name a few. In many of my works one can find references to their art in terms of subject matter and painting technique. I love to paint people and horses. Mostly I assemble elements from more than one source and I put much emphasis on composition, color, atmosphere and style. In this sense I don’t care for logic and I experiment a lot, combining and arranging figures and objects in a sometimes surrealistic way. Image compositions and also the narrative aspects of most of the paintings are often influenced by the „world“ of comic strips, motion pictures and magazine advertising.
