This piece was originally for the San Juan Island Museum Of Art group show for 2021-2022. Inspired by the oyster light I see in the winter. The exaggerated waves lend to the drama of the piece. Maybe you can feel the intensity behind them. What lives in this ocean? Our resident orcas. Named after the matriarch "J2" This piece was created with many thoughts and feelings in mind. Words that I associate with this piece: isolation, wisdom, strength, and power. Included with this piece are the pointe shoes that I used to dance on the paint. You can see them in the upper right side hanging from the top of the painting.

Jennifer Jones grew up in Eastern Pennsylvania. This quiet suburban hamlet coupled with its proximity to New York City provided fertile ground for the young woman’s imagination. Jennifer started studying ballet at the age of 3. Competitive figure skating followed shortly. n addition to these physical pursuits, she began sculpting in her early teens earning a scholarship to continue her fine art studies. A formally trained ballet dancer en pointe, and an award-winning tap dancer until an auto accident at 17 cut both her dance and skating careers short. Injury may have limited her prospects but didn’t stop her quest for kinetic self-expression. Shifting her focus to fine art painting, Jennifer was able to combine her training and passion into a seamless marriage of inspiration and technique. By combining dance and fine art, Jennifer creates not only art, but a tangible, visual recording of movement, a dance upon canvas. This allows her to combine performance with visual art. The making of the piece is as much the expression as the piece itself. Self-taught, Jennifer’s education in the arts is multi-layered and eclectic. With a past career in Visual Effects, she brings a cinematic eye to the performances that create her works. Likewise, she has been mentored by an array of prominent artists in New York and Los Angeles. Jennifer recently opened a studio in the San Juan islands of Washington State. She and her partner, writer Dario Scardapane, currently split their time between there and Los Angeles. Her work has recently been shown in the AR Group Showing at the SJI Museum of Art and the Orcas Island Artists Studio Tour. She will be exhibiting at Spectrum during Miami Art Week December 6th through the 10th 2023.
