Jacques Brel, (1929 - 1978), is a Belgian singer-songwriter, poet, actor and director.
Jacques Brel is considered an icon and one of the greatest singer-songwriters of French chanson, thanks to titles such as Ne me quitte pas, Amsterdam, Quand on n'a que l'amour, La Valse à mille temps, Ces gens-là, Vesoul, Les Bourgeois, Madeleine or Mathilde. The artist, at the height of his popularity, however, abandons the singing tour in 1967. Although he recorded a few more records and went on stage with L'Homme de la Mancha, he then devoted himself to the cinema, for which he acted in about ten films, including two he wrote and directed, Franz and Le Far West (selected in the official selection at the Cannes Film Festival in 1973).
With more than 25 million albums sold internationally, Jacques Brel remains an important representative of French chanson abroad. His songs, mostly recorded in French, are a source of inspiration for many English-speaking singer-songwriters such as David Bowie, Mort Shuman, Alex Harvey, Leonard Cohen, Marc Almond and Rod McKuen. Many of his songs have also been translated into English, particularly in the United States, and sung by Ray Charles, Judy Collins, John Denver, the Kingston Trio, Nina Simone, Frank Sinatra, Scott Walker, Wyclef Jean and Andy Williams.

I am a passionate Dutch portraitist who lives and works in France (Blois). I paint personalities and people who touch me, inspired by their talent and vision of life. My paintings are a tribute to these artists of all kinds, authentic, pure and, in my opinion, talented. I started with figurative Portraits. Now I am experimenting with pop art and contrasting colors. I like to work in series: Forever 27, Jazz musicians and singers, Impressionist Painters, Pop Music Stars, French singing and musical artists. I am happy to share these portraits with you and invite you to discover them here.
