Good Trouble Colorful John Lewis painting. Acrylic and spray paints in Neo expressive, urban art style. Measures 20″ x 16″ x .75″ on stretched canvas with sides painted white. Signed front left and en verso. Accompanied by certificate of authenticity and provenance document. There is so much to admire about this man, I wish I could have met him… Backstory: Lewis, a Democrat who served as the US representative for Georgia’s 5th Congressional District for more than three decades, was widely seen as a moral conscience of Congress because of his decades-long embodiment of nonviolent fight for civil rights. His passionate oratory was backed by a long record of action that included, by his count, more than 40 arrests while demonstrating against racial and social injustice. A follower and colleague of Martin Luther King Jr., he participated in lunch counter sit-ins, joined the Freedom Riders in challenging segregated buses and — at the age of 23 — was a keynote speaker at the historic 1963 March on Washington. Lewis has said King inspired his activism. Angered by the unfairness of the Jim Crow South, he launched what he called “good trouble” with organized protests and sit-ins. In the early 1960s, he was a Freedom Rider, challenging segregation at interstate bus terminals across the South and in the nation’s capital.

Globally collected artist Deb Breton is an abstract expressionist artist living & working in Northern California, U.S. Hi, I'm Deb, In school, I was that quirky kid who was always drawing during English Lit. Class, or backstage painting sets for the Drama Department. After graduation, I dove into the fast-paced world of news at the Saint Petersburg Times. And at the top of my “corporate career”, I was an artist and designer for such notable clients as Nestle, Warner Brothers, and the Dali Museum. But I just wasn't happy with the hustle, and I missed getting my hands dirty working on my own ideas. So, I picked up wood turning, which eventually led me full circle back to painting. Nowadays, you'll find me in my quasi hippie studio working with acrylics, oils, ink, charcoal, spray paint, and even repurposed bits found on nature walks. My tools are things like sponges, wire, rope, branches, squeegees, and I've even painted a floral using fresh cut flowers as my brushes. I've been on a roll lately, breaking a lot of the rules I was “taught” about art. But probably the hardest thing for me to learn was to step out of my own way and let creativity flow. My art is a reflection of my scattered mind —inspired by life, nature, the universe and sometimes even the beat of my playlist. It's REALLY hard for me to stay on script—my ADHD ensures that. But I find peace and calm in painting abstract art. For me, art is about telling an emotional story, but with color. And it's about embracing who we truly are and celebrating what makes us unique. It's a reminder to honor our authentic selves in a world that often tries to box us in.
