This painting is inspired by Kerala Mural Art ... Kathakali is the most well known dance drama from the south Indian state of Kerala. The word Kathakali literally means "Story-Play". It is known for its large, elaborate makeup and costumes. Kathakali is one of the eight 'Indian Classical Dances', as recognised by the Sangeet Natak Akademi; it is identifiable by its unique face make-up and costumes. The dance itself portrays a range of stories, from folk tales and Hindu epics to more contemporary pieces. It originated in what is now known as the southern Indian state of Kerala.
