About The Artwork

There are two kids playing in the water. They are kneeling. They do not look towards the viewer, but intently into the distance, the dune, that lies beyond the beach. They are the focus of the canvas, and yet their staring leads the viewer to look somewhere else. The attention is taken away from the children, the water, the movement of the sea, the reflections of the the boy and girl in the water and is diverted to something that is far in the distance. The wind blows lightly, agitating the waters, carrying some sand towards the dune. The hues of blues, black and greys mingle together to create a unique hyperrealistic scene, where every detail counts to bring the vividness of the instant forth.

As an artist. I paint and I photograph the world that I see, the world that surrounds me. Most of the time, I use ideas that have been germinating in my mind to fill canvas or paper without the need for a preamble sketch. I seldom make a plan; I work because I need to express myself in a burst of sincerity and passion. There is contradiction though, because my work is very polished and it is difficult to see any marks of hard strokes of brush or color due to the burst. Everything blends to make the visual story flow without interference. Almost all my work is figurative although my most recent work tends toward “abstract reality.” I try to emphasise the need of modern man to transcend the material world and reach out to a more spiritual reality. Hence my belief that a simple artistic expression can transcend cultural and linguistic differences and reach universal truths. My goal as an artist and creator is to make art that, I hope, will make men think and reflect. Art is my passion and gives my life a sense of purpose.
