About The Artwork
This is an original painting of three koi fish with calligraphy inscription, made with Japanese ink on Chinese rice paper. It's a fairly large painting, depicting koi (cultured carp), the very popular and beloved fish. Koi are a symbol of luck, prosperity, good fortune and perseverance in life. The koi have been admired for centuries for their unique colour patterns and grace. They just live their life, oblivious to our human worries. The calligraphy inscription is a popular Japanese proverb "Koi no takinobori" ("Koi's waterfall climbing"), which means "to succeed in life through hard work and perseverance". The proverb originated from a Chinese legend, when a carp, by vigorously jumping up the waterfall, reached to the top and became a powerful dragon. The painting is signed and sealed, wet-mounted on backing rice paper. It is ready for framing or mounting on a scroll. Please use acid-free adhesive when framing.
