the chicatana is an ant from Oaxaca. maybe me, maybe some other impressionable girl.
she holds something, maybe her heart. it looks like she is about to give it away.
the self determined, the free, the accomplished.
and the floating being. cause he does not have wings.

About The Artwork

this is how my hometown feels like in a winter day. the avenida Perú is the malecón, the place where we locals urbanites go to see the ocean, el mar. i am very happy now with this painting because if I look at it, i remember the light the greyness that is so typical of Viña. it used to be depressing to me, all those greys. but I have been living in Mexico for almost 20 years and Chile does not depress me anymore. what changed? there are many explanations. i think that white floating being has something to do with it. the chicatana is someone that looks at me and does not understand how someone can hace such a beautiful blue hair.

I am interested in experimenting with sincretic images that capture the whole range of religious experiences. I am inspired by the architecture and mural paintings of the Aztecs, Mayan, Zapotecan and other peoples from America and I like to intersect them with the aesthetics brought to America by the Spanish, like virgins, saints and holy beings. I intersect them with a third paradigm which is my personal journey into Indian philosophies and the idea of enlightenment. The result shows where I am now, believing that art is the way, and being an artist is my religion.
