About The Artwork
The reflection of Silver Point, a hill on the eastern shore of Ullswater in the Lake District, in the water of the lake. The land is only visible as a narrow band on the distant shore, but this ribbon of rocks and vegetation confirms the mountain's prescence. "Lake over Mountain" is hexagram 31 of the I Ching: about the joy of keeping still. Which is what painters have to do. Perseverance furthers! So this painting is a meditation on the subject of looking, just looking. As Georgia O'Keeffe said: "Looking takes time, like to have a friend takes time". I see so much better when I have a brush in my hand.

Born Cairo, Egypt 19.9.1949. I have painted for my living for over 50 years, through thick and thin. Nowadays I have my studio in West Dorset, previously North Yorkshire. In normal times, I aim to travel for half the year, painting as I go, usually in goache, very portable. All my painting is on a black background, and the image emerges out of the Void, a fairly thrilling process. The subject matter: I only paint what I find beautiful, fascinating, and what makes me happy. These qualities mean the paintings will outlast the whims of fashion.
