About The Artwork
Acrylic & Mixed Media Abstract on Canvas. K. D. Tobin was born in Connecticut and spent over ten years painting in Santa Monica, California. Relocating in 2004 with his wife to live and paint in Sarasota, Florida...a thriving art community, K.D. has spent time studying and painting in Paris and Tuscany. Working in acrylics and mixed media, he has honed his craft for more than thirty-five years, first working in large scale abstract figurative and then moving, in the last 4 years, to a purely abstract language. World events in the early 2000’s prompted Mr. Tobin to create the conceptual video piece “Vortex: What Makes You Think?” chosen for Sarasota Florida’s Young Filmmaker’s Series, along with inclusion in the Tribeca Film Festival’s Shorts Program. His work hangs in many private and corporate collections throughout the United States and Europe and he is now represented in Los Angeles by Art Dimensions and in Sarasota by Stakenborg-Greenberg Fine Art, as well as a presence on Saatchi Art. He has been a Golden Certified Working Artist since 2006.

I have boundless enthusiasm for all things creative. I work snippets of newspaper text and headlines from around the world into many of my abstract figurative paintings. These pieces of newsprint act as time-coding elements to root the individual piece to the period in which it was created, and while subtle, this process also helps contribute to the rich surface texture imparted upon every work. My inspiration comes from a hyper awareness and observation of the human condition.
