About The Artwork

Abstract acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas, all sides roughly painted, no visible staples, ready for display. Highly spontaneous work utilizing a liquid type paint. This painting started out with earth tone acrylics and quickly switched to black and white tonalities. The application of acrylic white and limited acrylic black was uninhibited. The smaller compositional support format is a direction my work is trending toward lately. Roy Newell, a first generation abstract expressionist from the New York school, is a direct influence for me in terms of painting on a smaller scale. Rather than painting in a color field motif regarding this piece, I felt action painter Jackson Pollock reaching out to me helping my decision to go in a more spontaneous direction. Hence the influence of Roy Newell and Jackson Pollock can be felt in this work, two painters who roundly despised each other and routinely came to blows while drinking at the famed New York watering hole, The Cedar Street Tavern. The title comes out of the rivalry between Pollock and Newell, as well as my own process in terms of knowing when to stop working on a painting. Thank you for looking. Peace and Love.

I am an American abstract painter. Every so often I veer into expressionist figuration. As an outsider I studied the fundamentals of art, the great artists, and the influential art movements throughout history, on my own. One of my goals is to always remain outside the norm. I am heavily influenced by the Abstract Expressionists from The New York School. Inspiration also comes to me from the works of Claude Monet, Joan Mitchell and Lee Krasner as well. The outsider ideal connects with me thanks to artists such as Jean Dubuffet and Jean Michel-Basquiat. Non-comformity defines what art should be. My mission is to create engaging and innovative artworks. I hope to extend an appreciation of artistic expression to a wide audience. The painting process I employ involves acrylic and mixed media. As I paint, color and material are combined on the canvas, and I love to merge drawing with painting. Many of my original paintings are found in collections across North America, Europe, and Asia. A Certificate of Authenticity ships with each painting, along with background information about the making of the piece. All the work you see is available. Thank you for looking.
