VIEW IN MY ROOM
This painting won an Honorable Mention in the Hawaii Nei Native Species juried art show in at the Wailoa Center in Hilo Hawaii, 2018. The little bird in this work is the critically endangered Palila which lives only on the slopes of Mauna Loa. I wanted to showcase the diverse and unique aspects of Hawaii where I live, and also juxtapose the drippy paint with a carefully rendered bird. I hope this emphasizes the fragility of the Palila's future as well as its cheerful spirit.
