Looking Through Painting

A walk in the forest. Sunlight was streaming through the branches of the Beech trees. The leaves were fluttering in the light breeze creating delicate shadows and pastel shades of colour, constantly moving. This work features linear drawings, embellished with dye and embroidery. The drawings were printed onto Chamomile tea bags using Traced Monotype (the tea bags placed face down on an inked plate and the image traced from the reverse) and dye and embroidery added in selected areas. The embroidery links the observations, creating further movement, just like in the forest. Tea bags are extremely versatile and durable and can withstand many processes. The finished texture resembles fabric, or a high quality hand-made paper.
