Lover of Apples Painting

In 2001 I had a 100-painting one-man show in Riga, Latvia, at the National Gallery (Museum of International Art). This painting was featured on posters that advertised my exhibition all over the city. It was the head painting of the show. It portrays a lover of apples, a person down on his knees to gently touch the fruit he passionately admires. He barely fits into the rectangle; were he to stand up, we would see only his feet and calves. He wears slippers, inappropriate for being outside, but the middle-aged man is in such an ecstasy over the apples, that he forgets about decency. His shirt is embroidered with passionate, shimmering red ribbons. The painting ironically shows that most unlikely and unsuitable objects can inspire passion.
