About The Artwork
After a hiatus from painting for almost a decade, I picked up the brush and created this, my first surrealist piece of this year. Inspired by Dali and Magritte, this piece portrays the "masks" that we use everyday to hide, manipulate, escape and also try to live up to. I want the viewer to experience the uncomfortableness of the mask. The distortion, ugliness and emptiness veer us from the traditional portraits. The artwork is painted with smooth strokes to amplify the lack of depth when we use these masks. I will provide the artwork as is on the canvas and leave it up to the buyer to choose a suitable frame.
