Maternity with Roses Painting

This work is inspired by the recent birth of my granddaughter and my love for my daughter. I wanted to portray femininity, beauty, vulnerability and love at a time of great change in a women’s life. The subject depicts a woman with vulnerability’s, Roses represent the beauty of motherhood, in the centre of each rose is a young/baby face, some of the leaves also depict faces representing some of the unexpected feelings that emerge after giving birth. I have painted expressively using loose brush strokes and being conscious of every stroke matters. I have chosen my favourite medium Water Colour as it is difficult to control and I like to embrace its unpredictability.
