Microscopic Painting

This, like many of my paintings, drawings, and collages, lives in an interstitial domain where abstract painting is so inspired by humor and so aspires to play around that it gives birth to "objects" and "critters" with one leg in one world, one in another, a third in another . . . This focus on play was how so many media came to be involved in this work; two sheets of paper, different paints, watercolor crayon as well as small pieces of collaged paper -- one a scrap of handmade paper with encaustic paint, another ripped from a pale topographic map (of a mountainside in the Blue Ridge Mountains, if you're interested in the specifics). What emerged were two beings and their interaction, perhaps under a microscope, perhaps in the deep sea.
