About The Artwork

The portrait Miles after GOMA is simplified yet detailed. I have chosen pokerwork as the medium as it produces an unique result. The burning etches the portrait into the timber creating a strong impression, and depending upon the position of the viewer it offers different experiences. It forces the audience to determine their own viewpoint to interpret the artwork. Like life, it is not until the audience takes a step back from the art that they can determine what the burning is all about, and therefore see the bigger picture more clearly. After returning from an exhaustive trip to the Gallery Of Modern Art, Miles closed his eyes as if contemplating the moment. It was this that I tried to capture - the essence of serenity and innocence. Miles after GOMA is a reflective and meditative portrait that questions our own attention to the moment.

Shipping & Returns

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

Edward Trost has more than 30 years’ experience in the arts, working in a variety of media including ceramics, large scale sculpture, and animated feature films. In his portraiture, Trost renders his subject’s likeness as a collection of scorched tones, utilising a pyrographic technique to create individual burn marks on plywood. He selects subjects who have faced mental health challenges with inner strength and resilience. By highlighting recognisable people either actively working through depression or advocating on behalf of the community, Trost hopes his art will help to correct misconceptions about these debilitating illnesses.
