The shapes are transforming into each other, as if the time we live in defines what is a mountain or a bird today; in this field where the image is its own double, whatever form it may take.

Brazil
Hi! My name is Gabriel Botta, I’m a Brazilian painter who work is focused on the development of a visual system capable of structuring the painting, based on the web that is built on the canvas as pure pigments are mixed with oil medias are applied to it, a mixing technique that I developed inspired by Brazilian painter Alfredo Volpi’s work with tempera. The building of these layers make it possible to superimpose and subtract elements, expanding the possibilities of the figure, which is often distorted to the point of merging with the whole and becoming the background itself. My thematic focus ranges from fragments of past times – arising from the practice of rereading myths and historical paintings, to the visual multiplicity inherent to the contemporary, resulting of the expansion of a universe – be it astronomical, digital, or identity wise. As my research expands, it begins to point inward, kind of an inside-outside relation. The works shows potential late symbols, complex and quirky webs that are capable of creating a world of its own, where the limit is itself – sculpting clouds, sewing mountains, fitting the sun somewhere, inhabiting the landscape I’ve created and my own body at the same time. Using a rudimentary technique, in essence, as a living means to stamp the liquidity of the contemporary being.
