About The Artwork
Tawny frogmouth (Podargus strigoides), an Australian species. [They look pretty similar to the European/American nightjars, but recent phylogenetic studies in fact place them closer to the swifts and hummingbirds.] It's interesting to paint on canvases with this unusually long thin aspect ratio (2:3). Alkyd oils on canvas, with acrylic underpainting and additional use of graphite pencil and marker pen. Canvas edges black. Signed and dated bottom left. Size 40 cm high x 60 cm wide (15.7 x 23.6 inches), edge depth 1.8 cm (0.7 inches).
