About The Artwork
This is a painting from real life. I have been working on this version for approximately 20 years and have many versions of it. It depicts a tree at night in winter outside my home and shows the superimposition of the stars that form the Big Dipper over the vertical axis of the tree visible because the leaves have fallen away. There is a heavy impasto built up from 100's of layers of paint over 2 decades. The panting is part of a tradition of painting as old as the Lascaux cave works up through the Greeks, Giotto, Piero, Courbet, Ryder and Brodie to name only a few of its influences.
