About The Artwork
Inspired by the drama and exhilaration of a fast-paced group ride on a summer afternoon along the California coast. While this is a departure from my usual coastal surf and seascape work, I wanted to convey the fact that cycling is also a huge part of the California sporting culture. The painting is oil on Masonite and is framed in a beautiful wood floater frame. I chose oil for this work because I wanted to keep the action fast and loose. Award-winning artist James Parkhurst brings to life the poetry of our natural world. Reaching beyond any ordinary seascape, surfscape or cycling scene, his signature portrayal of a special moment in time illustrates his ability to extract light in each of his paintings to open and illuminate any living space.

I was inspired at an early age to cultivate my artistic abilities. My reputation seemed to grow quickly from high school, winning awards and selling my first painting by age 18. Extensive traveling and surfing throughout the South Pacific brought me a deep appreciation and love of the ocean and it’s incredibly romantic and varying coastlines. After hard work and perseverance I received my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Visual Communications, and was a successful Art Director/Graphic Designer for many years. For the past few years, my primary focus has been both my mural/decorative arts business and my fine art. My goal is to constantly pursue and fine-tune my artistry by exploring an environment filled with infinite visual emotions, and transmitting that essence to my work.
