About The Artwork

The artwork shows the Kaiser-Friedrich-Höhe, a place in Germany with its fantastic view of Koblenz and the Rhine. There are 23 monumental oak trees that are up to 240 years old next to a cast iron observation tower that is more than 120 years old. The place is a natural and architectural monument of the highest quality and importance for the microclimate. An investor has come up with the idea of felling almost all of the 23 oak trees and building huge residential complexes on this site. The artwork is intended to be a painterly argument against this project. The sides of it are painted as well, resulting in a lively, three-dimensional look. It needs no frame and is ready to hang.

Artista statement: I have a big passion for color and am always looking for its greatest possible effect. Bright, vibrant color combinations have a direct impact on perception and emotion. With them I want to give energy and convey positivity – preferably with oil and acrylic paints. Even in my job as a button designer, it was always about the effect of structures, materials and surfaces. I have kept up playing with contrasts of material, color, finish and structures. So I like to give plastic waste (e.g. from coffee bags, chocolate foil or cosmetic packaging) a new life in my artworks. In doing so, I keep realizing how beautiful things can be that are made to be thrown away and how little you need for creative expression. I’m in recording mode all the time. Places and people that surround me, sensory impressions or just things that fall into my hands inspire me. Work: Miriam Montenegro is an internationally recognized artist based in Germany on the Rhine. Vibrant colours, evocative light and powerful compositions characterize her paintings. Like the french impressionists she catches the light of the moment, she goes out with canvas and easel, paints in front of the subject and presents interpretations of perceived moments. Her work is characterized by generous, clear forms and simple but effective drawing. The arrangements are dynamic and balanced and put emphasis on vital, exciting colour mixes. The artist reduces the subject to the essential and lets it end in colour and form, figurative and abstract painting is proportioned very well. The paint is applied in coats, subtly letting shine through coat by coat. Cubic light and shadow effects emerge. The picture metamorphoses again and again until the result is obtained. The subjects are mostly ordinary, not attracting attention at first sight. It is about aestethics of the subjects as such. Her style is equally emotion and reason-oriented.
