About The Artwork

The two pieces of this dptych represent diverging processes launching from the same starting point, headed towards the same goal. They are explorations into the way minor alterations in the different states of the painting and the artist's focus, the momentary nature of perception as chance factors in the process and the laws of deliberate progress towards a composition interact. The resulting images are held together by the parallel intentions, while the chance diverging forces create a liberating impression of variety. At the points of divergence, in areas of uncertainty, structure and connections are found by different strategies, involving arbitrary decisions about how to make sense of the spectacle.

Rita Keri's creative process is driven by an inquisitive nature that never stops experimenting and finding new ways of understanding. In exploring the possibilities of visual expression, she rarely settles on a single strategy when giving tangible form to cognitive processes, sensual impressions and reflections on personal experiences. A ceaseless dance between the feeling and the analytic results in an ever changing range of works, born from the collision between the experience or idea and the very present tense and open ended physical exploration with the medium. She layers and switches between different painting techniques to reflect the complexity, depth and natural movement of the thought. Sometimes, though, the subject is boiled down to the most frugal minimalist form that it allows. Through alternating abstract and representational approaches and constantly experimenting, she creates a diverse sequence of works that nonetheless all bear a signature style. Because of the centrality of transition and change, there is always an element of temporality in her work, a constant behind the scenes feel that precedes the occasional settling or permanence. She also frequently reuses ideas and even works themselves, so series and coherence evolve in the long term rather than being defined within shorter time periods. The works can be grouped in many different ways, each piece will fall into several categories rather than a single set or period, and different strategies can be relevant for finding connections between them. //
