About The Artwork

This painting was made in honor of Paula Becker. Paula Modersohn-Becker is a painter with a tragic destiny (1876-1907). During the fourteen years during which she practiced her art, she made about 750 paintings, thirteen prints and about a thousand drawings. His style, particularly original, is the fruit of multiple influences, on the borders of tradition and modernity. His painting presents aspects mixing the impressionism of Cézanne, van Gogh or Gauguin, the cubism of Picasso, fauvism, Japanese art or German Renaissance art. The expressive force of his work alone summarizes the main aspects of art at the beginning of the 20th century. She died at the age of 31 after giving birth. Until the exhibition dedicated to her by the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris in 2016, she remained little known beyond German-speaking countries. In this work, I was inspired by fauvist, figurative and impressionist currents to explore the beauty and complexity of the human form. Bright colors and bold features invite reflection on identity and self-perception. The oil allowed me to create a rich texture that brings every detail to life. This painting will bring a captivating energy and a powerful inner dialogue in any space.
