About The Artwork

Small abstract artwork on primed wood panel - in cheerful bright tones of pink. Inspired by LGBTQ parade in New York City. 2.5 " thick sides are finished with liquid gold paint: when hit with light they cast beautiful gold shadows on the wall.

Born in St. Petersburg, Russia, in 1988, to a renowned cityscape painter, I was immersed in art from a young age, assisting in my mother's studio. I hold a BA in Graphic Arts and both an MA and PhD in Communication Studies. My creative career has evolved in two parallel paths: crafting visual narratives for brands while also painting and curating art shows. Since moving to the U.S. in 2016, I have found an inexhaustible source of inspiration and a fertile ground for artistic research in my relationship with the modern metropolitan environment. **Artist statement** My style is best described as temporal psychoexpressionism: I capture the remnants of the fleeting feelings one has in evocative places. I explore and record the intersections of tradition and innovation by applying traditional mediums to modern abstract visual concepts. My work draws inspiration from Marc Tobey and early Yayoi Kusama, along with early Christian art. I use watercolors and a self-made spackling paste-based primer to mimic the matte effect of frescoes. Each piece of my artwork captures a specific emotional moment in a specific physical place, referenced in the title. I often finish the sides of my paintings with gold leaf for a radiant halo effect when hung. My art fuses the past, present, and future, striving to encapsulate a sense of absolute timelessness. Ultimately, my work aims to inspire viewers to fully embrace every moment of their lives, reminding them of the fleeting nature of our surroundings. Currently an artist in residence at Art150 and a member of ProArts artists union in Jersey City, USA.
