I wish to propose a series of paintings which are united by their investigations of the relationship between human and non-human animals. The first of these explore the spatial and sensory relationship of animals to their surroundings. The second, the psychological and physical relationship between people and their pets. In Western art history, the representation of animals tends to reveal more about the human species than animals themselves; this is because animals are traditionally represented as indexical signifiers. Animals are often represented as differentiating agents which point to the superiority of the human species, but shared interests between these groups are not explored in any depth. In many ways these silent animal presences in art are always slightly out of reach of human understanding, but one can certainly investigate the subject from a Post-humanistic viewpoint. The emergent field of critical animal studies foregrounds animals as sentient individuals who play an important role not only in the way we view ourselves, but also in the construction of alternate histories.

I was born 2nd November in the coastal city of Durban South Africa.I did my first drawing of an elephant at the age of three. As it was executed in the sand on a farm there is no trace of it left. The importance I placed on animals as a child remains my passion and intellectual concern. Since moving to France I have exploredmy new environment next to the Lot river.
