About The Artwork

This is part of a series of paintings I am still doing in 2020, the year of the pandemic. When all this begun, I thought I recluded myself in making paintings out of a very crafty manner. The series of paintings are made with fine quality dry pigments from Germany (Kremer) and UK (Cornelissen) mixed with egg, linseed oil, and demineralized water, following a recipe to make Egg tempera. It´s a traditional technique that is older than oil painting that I find very attractive. It provides a velvet-like rich texture and vibrant colors. This particular painting is inspired by an image of the French writer Michel Houellebecq. Critics have often depicted Houllebecq as a nihilist and I think this is a good reason, apart from his literary merits to have him painted at this particular time.
