7th painting in the Recouvrement series. The change is constant and continuous. I expected to have reached the end of the series with the previous painting. But I don’t decide anything. It imposes itself in the occupation of space, with clearer forms and fewer words. The reading is clearer. While it was both foreign and familiar to me, I didn’t know what to make of it yesterday. That’s the change. It’s not possible to recognize something new without also recognizing myself in it, at the same time. Sometimes, once you’ve said it, shouted it, screamed it, and realized that nothing can change it, you just have to keep going. The important thing is to have said it. For yourself, above all. And what’s more, to create something beautiful. Sometimes it’s a collage. It’s not edge to edge. It sticks out. It sticks out. It yawns. The surface isn’t smooth. Not quite clean. No big deal. We carry on. Simply because we can’t stop at what we can’t change. It’s not a question of forgetting or pretending that nothing happened. I know, we know what we’ve been hiding. It’s there. My creative process doesn't tolerate repentance, drafts, trials or frameworks. It takes place in a very short space of time. Almost instantaneous. I thus rule out any possibility of self-censorship by entering into a trance that gives voice to the gagged child, adolescent or young adult. The difficulty lies in channeling this flow while respecting chromatic values, composition and temperature balance. I didn't decide this whole process. It came naturally to me.

I was born in Madagascar in 1972. I now live in Clichy near Paris. I spent several years in Tchad and West Africa during my childhood and adolescence. After studying ethnology, I worked in the media and the Web. A self-taught painter, I remain attached to the dry, warm atmosphere of the Sahelian landscapes, but also to the Nivernais countryside of my childhood, when I accompanied my grandfather to paint on the banks of the Loire. From step by step I detach myself from ties, constraints, edges, models. I question my subjects on the line, the path, the light, the structure that attracted me to them. To better understand them, I simplify the shapes, from step to step. And then on top comes color, free and alive. Carried by water, pigments redraw lines and volumes, meet, merge. The landscape becomes a pretext. In turn, I become the subject and learn about myself. And so came these inner landscapes. Those that no longer need a model to appear. They are full of signs, calls and emotions. They are a window onto the past, which gradually rises to consciousness to express itself in snippets, allusions, fragments, inner messages.
