Reptil Painting

This large-format painting is part of a series that deals with social and political issues. The theme taken up here in the artwork is the juxtaposition of myself with the typical image one has of the dinosaurs of the male-dominated art world. The motif of the vessel (front left in the picture), or in other pictures also the vase, the drinking horn, the urn (and so on) always stands for the human being, which is filled with information, experiences, adventures and stories in the course of his life. This has an unchangeable appearance, just like the person himself. This motif is usually the first thing I draw on the canvas and is later surrounded by other attributes, which also convey certain content for me. The sometimes heavy themes (the woman in the art world, structural inequality of groups, war, dogmas, isms, human problems in existing thought systems and the (self-)oppression that arises in reality as a result. These are some of the topics that concern me). However, it is important to me not to frighten the viewer with dark colors and brutal scenes. I want it to be fun to look at the bright colors and the paintings and objects that seem cheerful at first glance and then, at second glance, to recognize the depth and tragedy hidden behind them. For me, this apparent camouflage also reflects the media world, in which the most horrific scenes are documented in a grandiose manner and thus also appear tragic to the viewer, but without reflecting the true emotional world, as we find ourselves in a permanent flood of images. For me, it is important to express dark themes in such a way that you can deal with them as deeply as you personally can and take the time to let the colors and shapes affect you on all levels, detached from the constant media bombardment in which we find ourselves.
