About The Artwork

"Rough Portrait" with the naive technique of Enrique Pichardo "I am not, nor will I ever be, the best painter in the world. Knowing it and keeping it in mind frees me from all pressure. This is not a competition." His lines evoke tales of great artists such as Joan Miró, Pablo Picasso, Piet Mondrian, Paul Klee, Jackson Pollock, José Manuel Merello, Juan Gris and Albert Gleizes. Being the style of the unique master, with a mixture of everything that he defines as Naif. Enrique Pichardo's naive technique consists of improvisation. The ideas are built and destroyed as the canvas fills with shapes and strokes. This technique places great importance on the moment of creation. Well, at this moment, where the unimaginable happens, the unattainable becomes tangible material on the canvas. Improvisation consists of the creative impetus to experiment at the precise moment of creating a work of art. It consists of trying, making mistakes, and amending them through forms and pigments. In this series, Enrique Pichardo improvises not only with colors and figures but also uses different materials to make them coexist and start conversations within the piece, providing it with textures, codes, and pictorial languages.

The Mexican plastic artist, Enrique Pichardo, has more than 30 years of experience as a painter. His technique and style combine artistic influences from other countries with the traditional Mexican influence. In his own words, he defines his art as naive expressionism. The plastic work of Enrique Pichardo has more than one aspect. On the one hand, he creates works that are densely populated with shapes, figures, and colors. On the other hand, he has abstracted urban landscapes with a neutral color palette that recreates everyday situations. However, the special characteristic that maintains the cohesion of all his pieces is the conviction of approaching art through a return to his childhood and his first traces. Paint like a child, paint with more expression than technique, paint with feeling over technique. The painter seeks the skillful strokes of his inner child to carry out each of his pieces.
