ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This is the latest in the Fabrication series which began in 2021. The interplay of tressillated shapes and intense, rich colour combine to create illusions of movement across the picture plane - almost as if the patterns are fidgeting on the surface. Optically the shapes advance and recede hovering between 2D and 3D, which shift and change depending on the vantage point. The luxuriant qualities of oil paint are employed to celebrate the sumptuous depiction of fabrics and materials thoughout the history of oil painting, especially the Flemish Primatives. This piece consists of 2 panels which have been made to slot together. It is ready to hang and does not require a frame.

Sara Willett graduated in 2002 from Camberwell College of Art, London, with a first class BA honours in Painting and later gained a Masters in Fine Art there; graduating in 2011. She exhibits regularly in the UK, Europe and Asia Her work is held in collections, in the UK, USA, Australia, Japan and Europe. She was short listed for the Sunny International Art Prize in 2018. Her practise incorporates, painting, installation, and sound. She has been awarded two fully supported residencies at the Da Wang Culture Highland centre, in South East China in 2015 and 2013. In 2016 she was awarded a fully supported residency with Being 3 Gallery, Beijing, which culminated in a solo exhibition, City Kaleidoscope.
