About The Artwork
Raining out at sea - part of the “Mermaids of St Ives” collection I spent a couple of years living sketching and painting in St Ives, Cornwall and have made many art trips to the seaside town over the years. This has helped my understanding and appreciation of its magical qualities, becoming mesmerised by the beauty and quality of the light that the place is blessed to receive. This light plays tricks on reflections from the sky on water and creates amazing shadows across the beaches and buildings, constantly changing colours and intensity throughout the day. This oil painting on canvas of two lovers walking by the shore with their dogs at the end of Porthmeor Beach was created looking West along the beach towards Mans Head and the headland beyond as the rain falls far offshore in the Celtic Sea. The vast expanse of beach and huge water pools reflect the ever changing sky, as two lovers enjoy a private stroll before the storm comes in. I hope the painting brings you as much pleasure as it has provided me in creating it.
