About The Artwork
The turbulent sea forced fishermen to park their boats on the shore. The depiction of sea water which is dark blue and light blue with harsh nuances and irregular white streaks depicts the atmosphere of an angry sea amidst the blazing rays of the sun heating the earth. Meanwhile the pitch black clouds timidly tried to move away from the arena. The angry sea and the hot sun make the beach seem deserted. Beach dwellers prefer a hidden place behind the bamboo booths of their house. Only helpless boats tied tightly were tossed about by the waves. Affandi's style of painting, which is free to dance on canvas, evokes its own pleasure in depicting the wild seaside atmosphere, with the chaotic sea water rushing as if the middle of nature showed its unbridled fury. I was born in the city of Malang, a highland city in East Java Province and now live in Jakarta. I am a self-taught artist, having had no formal training. My hobby for painting started to grow when I was 4 years old when I could already hold a pencil. The walls inside the house are silent witnesses to wild drawing activities expressing the images in my mind, whatever they are. This madness has allowed me to pursue painting from a unique perspective, unencumbered by ideas or techniques formed in the surrounding environment. I have honed my skills and developed my painting style over the years based on my observations of other people's paintings. Visiting many painting exhibitions over the years taught me to develop an interest in painting in various styles. This is based on the fact that painting enthusiasts in Indonesia are very diverse. However, there are still very few fans of modern painting. Realist and naturalist style paintings are more popular with the public. However, the many exhibitions in representative buildings where modern style paintings were displayed ultimately attracted my interest more. Paintings that express freedom and a mindset that is not bound by applicable dogma and rules.
