About The Artwork
the impulse for this painting came from the old venerable cherry tree growing in front of my house. At the end of winter, before the flowers and then leaves open you can see the whole gnarled history written on the bark. The blue/green lichen and the orange lichen, purplish grey bark with pink/brown fissures, curling little branchlets...It is an ennobling presence and as the great part of my reason for painting is trying to explain things visually, this is my second visit, I painted this tree a few years ago, curious how different the two pictures are
