About The Artwork
Geophysics is the art of mapping what lies unseen below the surface. It is one of the ways we view the landscape in the 21st century, along with satellite imaging and deep field photography. New ways of viewing create new ways of seeing, and a starting point for my own work. The work is inspired by that, and an indigenous (Australian Aboriginal - specifically the art of Rover Thomas), non European approach to recording landscape; also, the minimalism of 20th century modernists such as Barnett Newman resonates with my aesthetic.
