Venice, always a place of inspiration and lots of life. 'Sojourn in Venice,' painted in acrylic on linen in 2016, is about my first sight of the place, its hustle and bustle, wonderful harmonies of colour and light and the sense of history with modernity.

Although I am primarily a studio painter, Venice brings about a sensational excitement and you feel bound to sketch and paint outdoors and this feeds through to the studio pieces making interpretations more real somehow. Overall, the water, beautiful buildings and amazing colours are my biggest attraction but often the vital thoughts and feeling you remember from the time you were there, provide the catalyst for creation.

I am a British artist and have been painting / exhibiting nationally and internationally for more than forty years, most of which have been with the Portal Gallery in London, ( now known as Portal Painters) a leading exponent in Idiosyncratic art. Having always had an interest in nature and the variations of landscape, it would be correct to assume that I am driven by these elements to a high degree in my painting. My link with Idiosyncratic art however, might also imply that I am also inspired by a great number of other things like music, art, dance, spiritualism, dreams, everyday incidents and so on. So my paintings which are often about actual or imagined places, are often about many other incidentals which form into compositions and the unique self rather than simply a trend or fashion.
