With this work I revisited my Vertigo series of 2001, which dealt with the prospective war in Iraq. Having grown up in Berlin, Germany directly after WWII, I have seen and lived through the consequences of war. — When Russia started its brutal war against Ukraine in February of 2022, it reminded me much of the pretexts, systematic and evil justifications which Hittler used for conquering neighboring countries. I see the same reckless onslaught and destruction there now. Expressing my ythoughts and dealing with my fears about this situation and war in general I used my original “Steel Flames” triptych with its three parts “Doomed Cities”, “Steel Flames” and “Tumbling World” and added full color canvases to update and tell the story of the current situation in seven parts: blue for peaceful sky / Doomed Cities / yellow for grain and sunflower fields / Steel Flames / red for fire and hot war / Tumbling World / gray for the devastated world in the aftermath

Born in Berlin, Germany. Living and working in Santa Barbara, California since 1997. Contradiction and conflict determine the creative process of my work. I am fascinated by the presentation of opposites, exploring the effects of light and shadow or integrating contrasting shapes, forms and structures. The interrelationship between conceptual thinking and spontaneous inspiration leads to the crossing of boundaries and merging of mediums, styles, and methods.Leaving the two-dimensionality of the canvas by combining paint with a variety of materials such as paper, sand, or nails stimulates receptive and critical contemplation the geometry of the plane encounters the challenge of a third dimension.
